Hello friends and family,
Our last update was about 6 months ago when Zeke rang the bell indicating the end of treatment alongside his friends and family. It was a very joyful moment for everyone and we truly felt the Lord’s presence. A few months later we had a huge celebration commemorating the cancer free milestone! Zeke had a blast seeing all of his friends and supporters and the rain didn’t stop anyone from enjoying the party!
On September 4th, Zeke had his routine MRI done to check his kidney function and make sure everything looked good. Unfortunately, a 1cm tumor was found on his left kidney. The doctors believe it was left over microscopic disease from before surgery.
If you remember, during his initial diagnosis scan a year ago, he had one small spot on each kidney and then the large tumor at the connection of his horseshoe kidney.
During chemotherapy treatment those two small spots had shrunk very well (unlike the tumor) and during surgery they were invisible to the naked eye so the doctors had no reason to cut off extra “healthy” kidney tissue. The tumor that was most recently found is in a spot very close to where one of those previous tumors were.
For now we have a tentative plan in place which currently includes more chemotherapy and potential surgery. Unfortunately, this regimen of chemotherapy will be harsher, more often, and will affect his little body more than his previous regimen. To say we are devastated, stressed, and absolutely heartbroken is an understatement. We’ve spent countless hours doing research, gotten second opinions and begged the Lord to open the proper way. We also spent nearly 3 hours in discussions with our doctors/surgeon about any potential scenario for treatment and unfortunately we land in the same place every time.
These next 6-9 months will again be some of the hardest we’ll have to endure and we are beyond broken. All we can pray for is the Lord’s mercy on Zeke’s body and spirit. Fervently pray that side effects will be minimal and that his future life will not be altered due to this therapy. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers- pray that we will seek the Lord in moments of weakness and darkness, that we make wise and informed decisions as Zeke’s parents, and most importantly for him to maintain his strength and health to the best of his ability during this trial-some time.
We love you all,
The Yavorski’s ❤️
