Hello friends!
Unfortunately we are back with an update we wish we didn’t have to make. On Wednesday we did some routine bloodwork for Zeke to make sure that his blood counts were stable prior to surgery. His ANC (cells that help fight infection) was still lower than the prior week so he received a medication to help bring his counts up. On Thursday, Zeke was extra clingy and fussy and also seemed a little warm so we checked his temperature throughout the day to make sure he didn’t have a fever. Unfortunately by Thursday night he did develop a fever, which in cancer patients is pretty much an emergency because their bodies lack the capacity to fully fight infection. So Thursday night we made our way to the hospital to be admitted for fluids, IV antibiotics and several different blood tests to rule out different infections/viruses. Most of Zeke’s tests came back negative but he would still spike a fever at random times during the last few days.
This morning the plan was still to proceed with surgery but unfortunately he spiked another fever right after we decided to continue! 😣 At this point his team thinks it’s better to give his body more time to recover and go from there. As it stands we are hoping to have surgery this upcoming Wednesday but there is no guarantee. Worst case scenario is surgery will be the following Monday the 22nd. Our team is still discussing how to move forward but the biggest concern is to keep the tumor from growing while we wait so there may be some more chemo in Zeke’s future before surgery 😫
There really are no words to describe what we as parents are feeling and all the thoughts running through our minds- but we must hold fast, cling to Christ, and trust that this entire situation was ordained by our Heavenly Father. We ask for your fervent prayers that the cause of the fevers will be identified, that the fevers will cease, and that an earlier spot for surgery will open up.
We love you all!
PS: If you’d like a Christmas card this year from up reach out with your address! We’ll try to get them out in time for Christmas 🙂
